IDEM's engine test laboratory runs every production engine on a test bench before delivery, comparing its power, torque and fuel consumption curves with the reference specification.

Durability runs of several hundred hours and Euro 5 EEV compliance tests on development samples are carried out here too.

Parts under cyclic load owe their service life to heat treatment. IDEM's line checks case depth and surface hardness for every batch against a witness sample, and the report travels with the parts to assembly.

Quality control runs at three stations: incoming inspection, in-process checks on the machining lines, and final product audit. Every non-conformity is recorded and tracked until its corrective action is closed.

The R&D unit led the move of the OM 355 to common-rail fuel injection and the production of the OM 457 to Euro 5 EEV.

Current projects focus on localising imported parts and on industrial engine versions for generator sets.
